Section 01
What Are Cookies

Cookies are small text files that are placed on your computer, smartphone, tablet, or other internet-connected device by a website when you visit it. They are widely used across the internet to make websites work correctly, work more efficiently, and to provide information to the owners of websites about how visitors use them.

When you visit nathanbut.net, your web browser automatically receives these small files from our web server and stores them on your device. The next time you visit the same website, your browser sends the stored cookie back to the server so the website can recognize your device and remember certain information about your previous visit — such as the contents of your shopping cart, your login status, or your language preferences.

Cookies by themselves cannot be used to identify you personally — they simply store a unique identifier that links your browser to information held on a web server. They cannot access other files on your device and do not contain executable code, meaning they cannot transmit viruses or malware.

Types of Storage Technologies

In addition to traditional cookies, our website and its service providers may use the following related technologies to store information on your device. This Cookie Policy covers all of these storage mechanisms collectively referred to as "cookies."

  • Session Cookies Temporary cookies that exist only for the duration of your browser session and are deleted automatically when you close your browser. These are used to keep your shopping cart intact while you browse.
  • Persistent Cookies Cookies that remain on your device for a set period of time after you close your browser — ranging from a few days to several years — or until you delete them manually. These are used to remember your preferences across visits.
  • Local Storage A web storage technology similar to cookies that stores data in your browser's local storage area. Local storage can hold more data than cookies and does not expire automatically.
  • Session Storage Similar to local storage, but data is cleared when your browser tab or window is closed. Used for maintaining state within a single browsing session.
  • Pixel Tags and Web Beacons Tiny, often invisible images or scripts embedded in web pages or emails that communicate with a server when loaded. Used primarily to measure whether an email has been opened or a page has been viewed.

Nathan But Net LLC uses cookies exclusively to operate our website, improve your shopping experience, and understand how our website is being used so we can make it better. We do not use cookies to track your activity across third-party websites, to build advertising profiles about you, or to sell your data to any third party.

Specifically, we use cookies to accomplish the following purposes on nathanbut.net:

  • Keep Your Shopping Cart Intact When you add items to your cart and then navigate to other pages on our website, cookies ensure your cart contents are preserved so you do not lose your selections.
  • Maintain Your Login Session If you have created an account and logged in, cookies keep you authenticated as you browse different pages so you do not have to log in repeatedly during the same session.
  • Process Transactions Securely Cookies are used during the checkout process to maintain the security and integrity of your session, prevent fraud, and ensure your payment information is processed correctly.
  • Remember Your Preferences Functional cookies remember settings and preferences you have chosen on previous visits, such as your preferred currency display or whether you have previously accepted our cookie policy.
  • Measure Website Performance Analytics cookies help us understand which pages are most popular, how visitors navigate through our site, where visitors come from, and where they encounter problems, so we can continuously improve our website.
  • Prevent Fraud and Ensure Security Certain cookies help our platform and payment processors detect and prevent fraudulent transactions, unauthorized account access, and other suspicious activity.
What We Do Not Do With Cookies We do not use cookies to serve you personalized advertisements on other websites. We do not sell cookie data to advertising networks, data brokers, or any third party. We do not use cookies to build psychological profiles, track your political or religious views, or infer sensitive personal characteristics.
Section 03
Types of Cookies We Use

We use four categories of cookies on nathanbut.net. Each category serves a specific purpose, and we explain each one clearly below. Only "Strictly Necessary" cookies are placed without your ability to opt out, because they are essential for the website to function. All other categories can be managed through your browser settings.

Section 04
Detailed Cookie Reference

The table below provides a detailed reference of the specific cookies used on nathanbut.net. This includes the cookie name, its purpose, which party sets it, its category, and how long it persists on your device. Cookie names and durations may change as our platform is updated — this table is reviewed and updated regularly.

Cookie List Accuracy This cookie reference table is maintained to the best of our ability and is reviewed regularly. Because our website is powered by Shopify, Shopify may update, add, or remove platform cookies without prior notice as part of their ongoing platform development. For the most current information about Shopify's cookies, please visit shopify.com/legal/cookies.
Section 05
Third-Party Cookies

In addition to cookies set directly by Nathan But Net LLC, certain third-party services that we use to operate our store may also set cookies on your device. These third parties set and control their own cookies in accordance with their own privacy and cookie policies. We have no direct control over these third-party cookies, but we only partner with providers whose privacy practices we have reviewed and consider appropriate.

Shopify Inc.
Shopify, our e-commerce platform provider, sets several cookies as part of operating our store. These include session management, cart persistence, analytics, and checkout security cookies. Shopify's cookie practices are governed by their Cookie Policy at shopify.com/legal/cookies and their Privacy Policy at shopify.com/legal/privacy.
PayPal
When you choose to pay with PayPal at checkout, you will be redirected to PayPal's website, where PayPal may set its own cookies on your device to authenticate your account and process your payment securely. PayPal's cookie and privacy practices are governed by their Privacy Statement at paypal.com.
Apple Pay
When Apple Pay is displayed or used at checkout, Apple may set cookies or use device-level storage to facilitate the payment. Apple's privacy practices are governed by their Privacy Policy at apple.com/legal/privacy. Apple Pay uses device tokenization — your card number is never shared with us.
Google Pay
When Google Pay is displayed or selected at checkout, Google may use cookies or browser storage to facilitate the payment token exchange. Google's privacy and cookie practices are governed by their Privacy Policy at policies.google.com/privacy.
No Advertising Network Cookies Nathan But Net LLC does not partner with any advertising networks, demand-side platforms (DSPs), data management platforms (DMPs), or retargeting services that place advertising or tracking cookies on your device. We do not run retargeting campaigns and do not allow advertising technology companies to set cookies through our website.
Section 06
Cookies We Do Not Use

We believe it is just as important to tell you what we do not do as what we do. The following categories of cookies and tracking technologies are explicitly not used on nathanbut.net. We list these to give you complete confidence in how we respect your privacy.

  • Advertising and Retargeting Cookies We do not use cookies to display targeted advertisements to you on other websites after you have visited nathanbut.net. We do not participate in any retargeting or remarketing programs.
  • Social Media Tracking Pixels We do not embed Facebook Pixel, TikTok Pixel, Pinterest Tag, Snap Pixel, Twitter/X Pixel, or any other social media tracking pixel on our website. These technologies are commonly used to track your behavior across the web for advertising purposes.
  • Cross-Site Behavioral Tracking We do not track your browsing activity across websites other than nathanbut.net. We do not share your browsing data with advertising networks or data brokers.
  • Fingerprinting Technologies We do not use browser fingerprinting, canvas fingerprinting, or any other device fingerprinting technique to identify or track you without the use of cookies.
  • Supercookies or Evercookies We do not use supercookies, evercookies, or any technique designed to recreate cookies after they have been deleted or to circumvent cookie opt-outs.
  • Third-Party Analytics with PII Sharing Our analytics data is collected in anonymized and aggregated form. We do not share individually identifiable analytics data with any third-party analytics provider.
Section 07
How to Manage Cookies

You have several options to manage, limit, or disable cookies used by nathanbut.net and its service providers. We describe each method below so you can choose the approach that works best for you. Please note that disabling certain cookies — particularly strictly necessary cookies — may affect the functionality of our website.

1
Browser Cookie Settings
The most direct way to manage cookies is through your web browser's built-in settings. All modern browsers allow you to view, manage, block, and delete cookies. You can typically find these controls under Settings → Privacy or Settings → Security. Browser-specific instructions are provided in Section 08 of this policy.
2
Block All Third-Party Cookies
Most browsers allow you to block third-party cookies specifically — meaning cookies set by domains other than nathanbut.net — while still allowing first-party cookies required for the site to function. This is a recommended middle-ground option that preserves site functionality while limiting third-party tracking.
3
Use a Privacy-Focused Browser or Extension
Privacy-focused browsers such as Firefox, Brave, and DuckDuckGo Browser block many third-party trackers and cookies by default. Browser extensions such as Privacy Badger, uBlock Origin, and Cookie AutoDelete give you granular control over which cookies are allowed and which are blocked or deleted automatically when you leave a site.
4
Use Private or Incognito Browsing Mode
Browsing nathanbut.net in your browser's private or incognito mode will prevent cookies from being stored permanently on your device. Cookies set during a private browsing session are deleted automatically when you close the private window. Note that this does not prevent cookies from being set during your session — it only prevents them from persisting after you close the window.
5
Opt Out of Shopify Analytics
Shopify offers an opt-out mechanism for its internal analytics cookies. You can visit shopify.com/legal/privacy/cookies to learn more about opting out of Shopify's analytics tracking across its platform.
6
Enable Global Privacy Control (GPC)
If your browser supports the Global Privacy Control (GPC) signal, enabling it will send an automatic opt-out signal to nathanbut.net on every visit. We recognize and honor GPC signals. See Section 09 for more details about GPC.
Your Right to Opt Out
You have the right to opt out of non-essential cookies at any time. Exercising this right will not affect your ability to browse nathanbut.net or complete a purchase, though some site features may be less convenient without functional cookies. To exercise your broader privacy rights — including the right to opt out of any sale or sharing of personal information — please visit our Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information page.

Section 09
Global Privacy Control (GPC)

The Global Privacy Control (GPC) is a browser-level privacy signal that allows you to automatically communicate your opt-out preference to every website you visit, without needing to submit a separate request to each one. When enabled, your browser sends a Sec-GPC: 1 HTTP header to websites with every request.

Nathan But Net LLC recognizes and honors the GPC signal as a valid opt-out of the sale and sharing of personal information as required under the California Privacy Rights Act (CPRA) and other applicable U.S. state privacy laws. When we detect a GPC signal from your browser, we will:

  • Treat It as an Opt-Out of Sale and Sharing We will honor your GPC signal as a formal opt-out of any sale or sharing of your personal information under the CPRA, with the same legal effect as a manually submitted opt-out request.
  • Not Override Your Signal We will not attempt to override, circumvent, or ignore your GPC signal. We will not prompt you to withdraw your GPC opt-out preference.
  • Apply It to Your Current and Future Visits Your GPC preference will be recognized on every visit to nathanbut.net as long as your browser continues to send the signal.
How to Enable Global Privacy Control GPC is supported natively in Brave Browser and DuckDuckGo Browser. For Chrome and Firefox, you can enable GPC through browser extensions. Learn more and download GPC-compatible tools at globalprivacycontrol.org. Note that GPC operates as a privacy signal and does not directly block cookies — it communicates your opt-out preference to website operators who are legally required to honor it.
Section 10
Do Not Track Signals

The "Do Not Track" (DNT) signal is a browser setting that, when enabled, sends a request to websites asking them not to track your browsing activity across multiple websites. DNT is different from the Global Privacy Control (GPC) signal described in Section 09.

Unlike GPC, the DNT signal does not currently have a legally defined standard or an agreed-upon technical specification that establishes what "tracking" means or how websites must respond to the signal. As a result, there is no consensus among websites, browsers, or regulators on what honoring a DNT signal requires in practice.

Because of this lack of a universally accepted standard, Nathan But Net LLC does not currently respond to or alter our data practices based on Do Not Track browser signals. However, we encourage you to use the Global Privacy Control (GPC) signal instead, which we do recognize and honor as a legally valid opt-out mechanism under applicable U.S. state privacy law.

Recommendation If you want to communicate a privacy preference to websites, we recommend using the Global Privacy Control (GPC) signal rather than the Do Not Track (DNT) signal. GPC has legal backing under the CPRA and other state laws, while DNT does not. Visit globalprivacycontrol.org to learn how to enable GPC in your browser.
Section 11
Cookie Retention Periods

Cookies remain on your device for varying lengths of time depending on their purpose. The retention period for each cookie is chosen to match what is necessary for its intended function — we do not retain cookies for longer than is needed. Below is a summary of cookie retention periods used on nathanbut.net by category.

  • Session Cookies — Deleted When You Close Your Browser Session cookies exist only for the duration of your active browser session. They are automatically deleted by your browser when you close the browser window or tab. These include your checkout session token and certain Shopify session identifiers.
  • Short-Term Persistent Cookies — 30 Minutes to 24 Hours Some cookies are set to expire after a short fixed period, typically between 30 minutes and 24 hours. These are used for time-sensitive functions such as Shopify's short-term analytics session tracking (_shopify_s, _shopify_sa_t, _shopify_sa_p).
  • Medium-Term Persistent Cookies — 14 Days to 6 Months Cart and checkout cookies are typically set to persist for up to 14 days so your shopping cart is preserved if you leave and return to our website within that window without completing your purchase.
  • Long-Term Persistent Cookies — 6 Months to 2 Years Analytics cookies such as Shopify's visitor identification cookie (_shopify_y) and our cookie consent record (cookieConsent) are set to last up to 1–2 years. These are the minimum period needed to reliably measure returning visitor statistics and remember your consent decision across visits.
  • Authentication Cookies — Up to 20 Years The secure_customer_sig cookie used to maintain your logged-in account status is set by Shopify with a very long expiration. In practice, this cookie is refreshed on each login and is invalidated when you log out of your account. You can delete it at any time through your browser settings.
Deleting Cookies at Any Time Regardless of a cookie's set expiration date, you can delete any or all cookies from your device at any time using your browser's cookie management settings. Deleting a cookie before its expiration date simply removes it from your device early. See Section 08 for browser-specific deletion instructions.
Section 12
Impact of Disabling Cookies

You are free to disable any or all cookies through your browser settings. However, it is important to understand how disabling certain categories of cookies will affect your ability to use nathanbut.net. The table below describes the specific impact of disabling each category.

Our Recommendation We recommend allowing strictly necessary cookies (which you have no choice about anyway) and functional cookies, while disabling or opting out of analytics cookies if you prefer. This approach gives you a fully functional shopping experience while minimizing the data collected about your visit.
Section 13
Frequently Asked Questions

Here are answers to the most common questions we receive about how cookies work on nathanbut.net.

No, absolutely not. We do not use advertising cookies, retargeting pixels, or any technology that tracks your browsing activity across other websites for the purpose of showing you advertisements. We do not partner with any advertising networks or use social media tracking pixels. The cookies we use are strictly limited to operating our store, improving our website through anonymous analytics, and providing a more convenient shopping experience.
If you disable strictly necessary cookies — which are the core session and cart cookies — you will not be able to complete a purchase, because these cookies are required to maintain your shopping cart, process your checkout, and authenticate your payment. However, disabling analytics cookies or functional cookies will not prevent you from shopping. You can use our cookie management guide in Section 07 to selectively disable only optional cookies while keeping strictly necessary cookies active.
No. Cookies are simple text files and cannot execute code, transmit viruses, or access other files on your device. Cookies used on nathanbut.net cannot access your credit card details, passwords, or any other sensitive information stored on your computer. Your payment card details are never stored in a cookie — they are processed directly by our PCI DSS-certified payment processor over an encrypted connection and are never exposed to our website's cookie system.
Cookie notices are required by data protection laws in many jurisdictions, including the European Union's General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the ePrivacy Directive, as well as various U.S. state privacy laws. These laws require websites to inform visitors about the cookies they use and, in some cases, obtain consent before setting non-essential cookies. While Nathan But Net LLC primarily serves U.S. customers, we follow best practices for cookie transparency that align with these international standards.
Yes, clearing cookies from your browser will log you out of your nathanbut.net account, because your authenticated session is maintained by a session cookie. After clearing your cookies, you will need to log back in with your email address and password. Clearing cookies will also remove your saved cart contents, so any items you had in your cart before clearing cookies will need to be re-added. Clearing cookies has no effect on your account data, order history, or saved addresses — those are stored securely on our servers, not in your browser.
We review and update this Cookie Policy whenever we add or remove cookies from our website, when our service providers update their cookie practices, when applicable law changes, or at least once per year as a routine review. The effective date at the top of this page is updated whenever a material change is made. We encourage you to check back periodically. If we make a significant change to the types of cookies we use or how we use them, we will notify you through a prominent notice on our website or by email if you have an account with us.
The analytics data collected through cookies on nathanbut.net is anonymized and aggregated before we analyze it. We receive reports such as "500 visitors viewed the homepage today" or "the most common browser used is Chrome" — not data that identifies individual visitors by name or email address. The analytics cookies assign a random identifier to your browser session, but we do not link that identifier to your name, email, or any other personally identifiable information in our customer database.
